Arizona Basketball has been on a roll this season in Tommy Lloyd’s first year as head coach. The Wildcats are currently 22-2 (12-1) on the year, picking up marquee wins against then No. 5 Michigan, Illinois, UCLA, USC, and Wichita State among others.
Last week, Arizona moved up three spots after beating Top 10 UCLA and Top 25 USC at home. But after another big week in which the Wildcats defeated Arizona State, Washington State, and Washington, we knew Arizona would be climbing the ranks once again, the question was where would they land.
Well, making news on Monday afternoon, the Associated Press released their latest, weekly Top 25 poll, and coming in at No. 3 on the list was our Wildcats, trailing just Gonzaga (1) and Auburn (2).
Thanks in part to some upsets in college basketball this week Arizona Basketball finds themselves at their highest ranking on the season.
Also joining Arizona from the Pac-12 Conference was UCLA (No. 13) and USC (No. 17), meanwhile, Oregon did not receive any votes, after losing to California in what was a brutal loss for the Ducks.
So, with the Wildcats now ranking No. 3 in the country, they will have to stay focused this week as they take on Oregon State and Oregon, where they will host ESPN’s College Gameday on Saturday.
Arizona will follow up those games by then traveling to Utah and Colorado in what should prove to be another tough road trip.
The challenge won’t be an easy one, but the Wildcats will need to be ready if they are to win. Should the Wildcats take care of business this week, Arizona can easily maintain its current standing!
