Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential candidate, promises to reopen all of Nigeria’s land borders if elected. He stated this at a campaign rally in Birnin-Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State, highlighting his experience as a former officer of the Nigeria Customs Service. The land borders were closed by the Buhari administration citing concerns about smuggling, though four were reopened two years later.
He vows to reopen closed borders, claiming expertise on border matters surpassing all other presidential hopefuls, to boost trade and investment between Nigeria and neighboring countries.
According to him, reopening borders will increase trade and investment between Nigeria and neighboring nations. He stated, “We must not be prevented from trading with our neighbors.” In addition, he pledged to address security issues to enhance agricultural operations.
