The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is scheduled to address the recent controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s academic records as revealed by the Chicago State University (CSU) during a press conference today.
An official statement regarding the press conference invitation states, “We hereby inform and extend an invitation to you for the World Press Conference with Our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, GCON, to be held at the Yar’Adua Centre on Thursday, October 5, 2023, in the afternoon. The exact timing will be communicated shortly. Your presence is highly appreciated. Thank you.”
It is worth recalling that Atiku Abubakar had secured the release of Tinubu’s educational records from CSU through a court subpoena, contrary to the President’s initial disclosure. The documents, initially released on October 3 and followed by a deposition on Tuesday, raised questions about the authenticity of Tinubu’s 1979 CSU certificate, which he had submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The certificates provided in the release differed from the samples of certificates issued to students in the same year by the University.
Under oath, the CSU Registrar had expressed an inability to authenticate the certificate presented by Tinubu to INEC. Atiku had maintained silence since the documents were made public.
