In a shocking incident, the residence of Paschal Agbodike, a prominent member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was targeted by yet-to-be-identified assailants who set the house ablaze. The attack took place in the early hours of Tuesday, around 1 am, in Ubahi-Mbosi, located in Ihiala Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the attackers stormed the premises with a hail of gunfire before proceeding to ignite the property, a fully-furnished five-bedroom duplex boasting four living rooms and a kitchen. While no casualties were reported, the extensive blaze ravaged the entirety of the impressive structure.
Paschal Agbodike, who was previously the deputy speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, confirmed the harrowing incident to the press. He disclosed that he received a distressing phone call alerting him to the attack while he was fulfilling his legislative duties in Abuja. By the time security forces reached the scene, the culprits had already fled, leaving behind a scene of destruction.
Despite the ordeal, Agbodike refrained from speculating about the motives behind the attack, neither identifying potential suspects nor implicating any political motivations. His cautious approach leaves room for law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The Anambra State Police Spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, acknowledged the event and assured that security measures have been heightened in the area. “The area has been cordoned off, and security operatives have been deployed to the location. Ongoing surveillance efforts are being carried out by law enforcement personnel,” stated Ikenga.
As investigations proceed, the community remains on edge, grappling with the audacious assault on a prominent lawmaker’s residence. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of security and law enforcement in the region, prompting authorities to redouble their efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens.
