Speaker Announces President Tinubu’s Plans to Submit 2023 Supplementary and 2024 Appropriation Bills

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu is set to send the 2023 supplementary budget and the 2024 appropriation bill to the National Assembly in the near future.

Abbas disclosed this yesterday during his welcome address, as lawmakers resumed their legislative duties following a two-month recess.

While the Speaker did not provide specific details about the supplementary budget, he stated, “In the coming days, the executive arm of government is expected to present a 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill as well as the 2024 Appropriation Bill to this House.”

He emphasized the importance of quick deliberation on these bills, acknowledging that the time available for consideration would be limited. Abbas urged his fellow legislators to roll up their sleeves and commence work immediately to ensure the swift review and approval of these bills, which are crucial to addressing the aspirations of the people.

Abbas reiterated the commitment to uphold the tradition of expeditious consideration of bills, but he stressed the importance of diligent examination to ensure that the proposed budgets align with the needs of their constituents. He emphasized the need for extra work hours to guarantee the passage of the budget well in advance, enabling its implementation on the first day of 2024.

Highlighting the pressing national challenges facing Nigeria and the 10th House, Abbas emphasized the urgency of their responsibilities. He concluded, “We must, therefore, do everything within our power to champion causes aimed at addressing the yearnings of our people.
