Victor Osimhen, a striker for the Nigerian national team and Napoli, scored twice and assisted another goal in Napoli’s 5-1 defeat of Juventus in a Serie A match. The win helped Napoli maintain their lead in the league standings, while Juventus’ unbeaten streak came to an end.
From the start of the match, Napoli dominated Juventus with their relentless attacking play. Only 14 minutes in, they took the lead through a combination of efforts from Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. Kvaratskhelia fired a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper, but Osimhen was there to tap in the rebound. Napoli scored their second goal in the 39th minute, with Osimhen playing a key role in setting up Kvaratskhelia for a low drive into the bottom corner.
Napoli’s lead was short-lived as Angel Di Maria scored for Juventus just three minutes after their second goal. However, Napoli came out in the second half with renewed energy and was able to extend their lead. Amir Rrahmani scored in the 55th minute, followed by Victor Osimhen’s second goal of the match in the 65th minute, assisted by Kvaratskhelia. Eljif Elmas added another goal for Napoli in the 72nd minute to make the final score 5-1. Osimhen was particularly effective, scoring both of his goals with headers. Despite being closely marked, the Nigerian striker proved to be a formidable threat that the Italian defenders were unable to contain.
There were a few physical confrontations in the match, with Osimhen being targeted by Juventus’ defenders. He also got into some trouble, firstly with an accidental arm to the face of Manuel Locatelli which required medical attention, and then with a forceful nudge to Brazilian defender Sandro. While his physical playing style can be effective, Osimhen needs to be cautious not to cross the line too often. The victory for Napoli gives them a ten-point lead in the Serie A standings and ended Juventus’ eight-game unbeaten streak. Osimhen now has 12 goals in 14 Serie A games.
